Physician of Olive Garvey Center For Healing Arts

Dr. Rebecca Kirby is a board certified family practice physician, biochemist, and registered dietitian. She comes to the Olive W. Garvey Center for the Healing Arts from El Paso, Texas, where she served on the faculty at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center as Assistant Professor and Research Director in the Department of Family Medicine.

Dr. Kirby received her medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, in 1991, and completed a residency in Family Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Texas Tech. Dr. Kirby also received a Masters of Science in Biochemistry in 1980 from Texas A&M University and did postgraduate studies in Ireland at University College Cork.

Dr Kirby was a “late-comer” to medicine; her first career was in biochemical and nutrition research. At the University of Texas back in the early 1970’s, Dr. Kirby worked as an assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Roger J. Williams who emphasized biochemical individuality in nutrition.

At the Center Dr. Kirby enjoys practicing nutritional medicine and working with each person’s uniqueness to optimize their health. Dr. Kirby has been at the Center for 5 years and in addition to seeing co-learners, she lectures for the Lunch and Lecture series and provides diet consultations based on food sensitivities.
